Travelling during pregnancy

Travelling during pregnancy should not pose any problem especially in the first two trimesters of pregnancy, however it is advisable to consult a doctor.

If you are travelling internationally you should bear in mind that in some countries there are vaccines required for travellers, and some of them can be harmful to the baby’s health.

If the pregnancy is not high risk, some airlines will allow travel until the 36th week of pregnancy, but many others only allow travel until week 28, due to the risk of premature delivery during the flight.

To avoid mishaps, you must request a letter from your doctor, which details the expected date of delivery and that the pregnant woman is fit to travel.

As the risks of traveling while pregnant do not only occur when you are on the plane, we recommend buying a travel insurance that covers you during the entire trip.

Policies offered by Fit 2 Trip include single trip and annual multi-trip travel insurance, cancellation, medical only and multi-risk policies for business trips, families, couples, individual travellers and people with pre-existing medical conditions. Fit 2 Trip’s travel insurance policies cover medical expenses, lost or stolen luggage repatriation and the cost associated with a possible premature or early return or the cancellation of your trip.
